Inspection Report and VIN locations

It is highly likely that your Lambrettas will need to be inspected before the DVLA would provide the V5 log book.  The DVLA will inform you of this.  In Medway, the inspection is carried out by a Sheerness company called SGS (01795 543808) and they take up to 6 days to visit your home.  Although I could not start my Lambrettas as they needed restoring, they were all complete.  An inspection report for me consisted of a physical view of the Lambretta and the person taking photos of the Engine and Frame number.  It lasted around 5 minutes.

Lambretta VIN or Frame Number Locations

Most VIN or Frame Numbers are fairly easy to find.  However, you may need to strip away some paint to see them.

Typical locations include the right side (As you sit on the Lambretta) tubular part of the frame under the petrol tank. The number normally starts with a prefix (ex. 125LD or 150LD) which denotes the model.  There are then normally 6 digit number with a star at the end which denotes the year. A typical frame number may look like this: 150LD*123456* or 125LD*123456

Note:  LC models may be seen as 6 digits only for the engine or the frame number.  The frame number will have a “Y” looking symbol at the end

The LC 125 (With side panels) was very difficult to find and was found with the assistance of the LCGB Forum members..

The VIN number is located on the left-hand side of the front engine mount bracket (close to the low voltage current supply).  Careful paint stripping may be required in that area and it is an awkward place to get to.  Images can be found below
