Lambretta Transport

I have seen in a few forums, people asking:

• What size of van do I need to transport my Lambretta when I purchase it?
• What will it fit into?

Lambrettas are around 170 Centimeters long (or 67 inches).  However, if hiring a van and placing the Lambretta sideways a little, you can fit one into a 5ft space or 152 centimeters or 60 inch space.

Peugeot Partner 850 SE HDI 90 (Image One to Three)

I have hired a Peugeot Partner 850 SE HDI 90 (In summary, a very small van).  If viewing the specification, it lists it as a Length 3050mm / height 1834mm.  However, the inside was a little smaller than what was listed –

Fiat Doblo (Images Four through to Eight below)

I have also hired a Fiat Doblo (Another small van) and had the same experience.

The Lambretta below is a standard 1956 Lambretta (Mk2 125LD), which fitted into a space (At a slight angle) at under 5ft or 152 centimeters or 60 inches.  Please see below for pictures of this transportation as well as a tape measure showing the proof, to ease your mind.  I took the Lambretta side panels off for transportation in case it tipped over.  However, in my experience of transporting Lambrettas in vans to date, Lambretta stands are very sturdy and they do not topple over with ease, if driving with care.

Peugeot Partner (Image Nine to Eleven)

The Peugeot Partner is slight bigger than the other above coming it at just over 6ft long or 72 inches or .  Images 182 centimeters.  A another 1956 Lambretta Mk2 150LD was transported in this

Vauxhall Vivaro (No Images)

I transported three Lambrettas in a Vauxhall Vivaro (6Mx3M) in Jun16, but did not take any pictures.  It was a bit of a tight squeeze, but all three fitted in OK!.

Transport Rack (Image Twelve to Thirteen)

Purchased on eBay for £42 is my 240mm Wide Track Folding Aluminium Motorcycle Loading Ramp.  A new addition to my transportation and very useful in the workshop as well.

Transport Reminder – Take Cardboard

Using the Lambretta stand, they do not move very much in vans for transportation.  However, it is important to remember to take lots of cardboard with you for transportation, in case the Lambretta does moves and puts a dent in the side panel.
