DVLA & Registration Process

The purpose of this page is to aid you with the registration process of your Lambretta.  It also has a number of clickable links that will redirect you to other websites for further information in some areas.

For imports, It assumes the Lambretta has been imported in the correct manor using these guidelines: https://www.gov.uk/importing-vehicles-into-the-uk

NOVA points to note:

NOVA’s were required pre BREXIT / Pre January 2021.  It is possible that you may still be able to use a (paper version) NOVA form for a UK barn find and add a covering letter, explaining the circumstances to the HMRC.

If supplying a NOVA, ensure your NOVA / British Lambretta Archive and Frame number all match.  If the NOVA is incorrect in any way, the registration will be rejected.  Frame numbers may be number only (12345) or may include the engine size, the make and the number ( 125LD * 83333 ).  If they do not match, you will be asked to call the PTU (Public transport unit) and discuss updating the NOVA documentation.  I called the PTU and they updated my corrections required over the phone as I submitted the NOVA forms.  They informed me that they do not resend NOVA’s and will ask you to resubmit to the DVLA again after they have carried out the correction required.

Note:  Speaking to the PTU, if you receive a NOVA from someone you have purchased the Lambretta from and there are issues, the PTU will not deal with or update the NOVA and you can not obtain a new NOVA from them.  You need to call them and discuss sending them proof of purchase for them to update their information.

Inspection Report

It is possibIe that your Lambretta may requrie an inspection before the DVLA would provide the V5 log book.  The DVLA will inform you of this.  In Medway, the inspection is carried out by a Sheerness company called SGS (01795 543808) and they take up to 6 days to visit your home.  An inspection report for me consisted of a physical view of the Lambretta and the person taking photos of the Engine and Frame number.

Summary of registration documents and action required is as follows:

  • Once your Lambretta is listed on the HMRC database (Either via the HMRC import method or use of a NOVA for a UK / barn find)
  • V55/5 Completed form
  • V112 completed form
  • BLA – Original British Lambretta Archive Club letter of authenticity confirming the Lambretta year, make, model, Vin Chassis and engine number.
  • Images of complete Lambretta

If re-registering a previous UK Lambretta, other items include:

  • V765 completed form from the British Lambretta Archives Club
  • RF60 (Photocopy signed by a recognised DVLA club) if re registering a UK Lambretta

Registrations – Complete the following action

  1. V55/5 – Fill out V55/5
  2. V112 – Fill out V112 for pre 1960 Lambretta (Mot Except – if pre 01 Jan 1960) – available at post office.
  3. Tax Exempt – No form reburied.  See here if pre 01 Jan 1976)
  4. Send ID 1 required – Proof of name – Driving licence, passport, marriage certificate, birth certificate (Photo copy)
  5. Send ID 2 required – Proof of address – utility bill (within 3 months), recent bank/building society statement, medical card, council tax bill.
  6. Send pictures of Frame / Engine Number / Photo of Lambretta
  7. Send Fee £55
  8. Send ALL of the above to the DVLA
  9. DVLA may then request an inspection report.  Book the inspection report with the contact information the DVLA provide.
  10. Have the inspection report completed.
  11. Await V5C
  12. SORN your Lambretta if applicable and start stripping and rebuilding it.

Notes: For EU purchases, you may need export paperwork and the equivalent of the country of origins V5C

Important Notes: In some countries, the owner is obliged to continue to pay taxes on their vehicle until it is either scraped or exported, so export paperwork is important in this area.

If you have seen an equivalent of a UK V5C for your overseas purchase, or know that it has one, it is likely that the country of origin requires export paperwork to be completed prior to you taking delivery of the Lambretta and a NOVA / V5C being applied for.  The countries equivalent of the UK V5C is sent to the DVLA with your application.

UK Purchase (With RF60 / VE60)

  1. LCGB Dating certificate.  NB: You will need to join a club and review current costs (Sep22 – LCGB Members £10 – Non members £20)

  3. RF60 / VE60 – Photo copy the original and ask for assistance from a local approved owners club.  Click here for a list of approved clubs and further information.  Note:  DO NOT SEND THE ORIGINAL, as it may get lost in the post.
  4. V55/5 (DVLA Vehicle Registration) – download online https://www.gov.uk/dvlaforms / https://forms.dft.gov.uk/order-dvla-forms/

Registrations – Complete the following action
