MK II and MK III Lambretta D & LD Wiring Diagram and Routes

Notes:  There is some information on MK1’s below as well (Coil with secondary coil) and further information to follow on colours.  What’s important is not the colours of wiring used, but an understanding of what you or someone else is installing and the routes required. Notes:  Most people refer to the Green cable whenever you have any ignition problems (Check the GREEN cable ect).  You may also find some You Tube videos referencing the Green cable.  I won’t go into my own speculation why. If you have a Filso Magneto, they do use different colours (Filso – Green Ignition is Red & the Red Lighting (On a Marelli) is Green (On a Filso).  Some people may simply use the Marelli wiring scheme for a Filso Magneto when they work on wiring, to make it easier for themselves and for when they ask questions in the community (you often get the response “check the Green wire”), as most people will believe you have it set up so that Green is the Ignition cable. Electrical System diagram also shown below.  One with colour code to trace and see where loom wires are located and the other diagram is not as good as the first from a cable colour point of view, but it does show the second (lighting) cable / Rectifier route; if it is applicable to your model of Lambretta. For engine rebuilds – I would not look at any of the loom / electrics or lighting myself and until I got the Lambretta running from the Ignition (Green cable on a Marelli) to the Coil (I may bypass the HT Block as well).  Once cabled, I would check the spark plug by holding it in my hand for a short shock, rather than looking for a blue spark. Pay special attention to NOT ground or earth your Points by ensuring the Fibre Washers are used and the hole the nut and bolt goes through to hold the Condensor Cable and Points (Green cable to outside or HT Block position M on the Marelli example below) cable also has a Fibre Washer in place and not damaged, otherwise grounding / earthing will occur.  If the hole fibre wash is damaged, but Points are still OK, by a plastic washer kit and replace this section.  The Condensor cable and Green cable should not be earthed (Hence Fibre Washer solution used).  If points arm is on the Right – then fibre washer and Green Cable and Condensor Cable is on the Left, the connection is made via the Nut and Bolt that holds it together.  See example below.
