A Lambretta LD Cylinder Head Bolt Removal
For indexing purposes, this post applies to Lambretta LD 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1954, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958 Flywheel Removal using a 19mm thin walled socket and LD flywheel removal tool.

Notes on this removal and issues:
When I purchased this Lambretta, it came without head bolts. The head bolts on this one were M7 (11MM), which are not easy to find locally, so you may need to order them from e-Bay and wait. I used spares from a nut and bolt selection pack I had.
Some of the early model LD’s have 10MM head-bolts, so please ensure you have the correct ones at hand and do not mistake 11MM for 12MM or 13MM, as they fit on nicely and are slightly loose. You risk damaging either the bolt or the nuts if you do not use the correct ones.
I had actually soaked this cylinder head and barrel in diesel for over two weeks before removing the bolts, as I was also working on a seized piston with this Lambretta.
- Spray some penetrating fluid down the side of the bolts. You may need to do this a few times if it’s been standing still for 30 years!
- Take two of the nuts you removed off the cylinder head and screw them onto one bolt. It does not have to be screwed down all the way, but should be screwed down enough to get another nut on and a little space above.
- Lock the two nuts together using either two spanners of a spanner and a socket (one anticlockwise, the other clockwise)
- Using a spanner, unscrew the cylinder head bolt. The spanner should be on the lower nut only and move anticlockwise.
- Note: If BOTH nuts move together, you have not tightened them up together enough.
