I have never heard of anyone servicing a crankshaft.
If it’s simply a case of it not kick starting / seized, I wonder if it’s actually the piston / rings that have seized in the cylinder and the crankshaft may not require any work. Bearings may need replacing though!? See if you can take the cylinder and head off first and if you can’t tis may be your problem!
Crankshaft Repair
If I were looking at repairing a crankshaft, I would email Scooter Surgery and ask their opinion on the matter. You may need to call them rather than email. I have never used Scooter Surgery myself, but I have read a number of positive comments about them. If they said it could be repaired, I would get a quote and then either decide to use them or search online for other repair places and compare costs.
Further comments:
The crankshaft is removed via the mag flange side. You would remove the flywheel and mag flange and bearing to get the crankshaft out from this side.
The Mag Flange removal can be very difficult and nearly impossible to remove from most LD Lambrettas and some people end up breaking the Mag Flange to remove the crankshaft. Regrettably, there is no trick in removing it and if you outsource, nobody is able to guarantee not breaking the mag flange in my opinion. Mag flanges I have removed have been a very tight fit and the gasket/seal is difficult to break. There is a tool that can be used to assist in the removal (It’s the same as what’s used on the LI at around £35 to £40), but this does not help until it’s come away from the casing a little and by this stage, you may end up continuing to tap it away. Some people say tap gently, but if it’s stubborn (Most are), after several weeks and various attempts (Including using heat), people end up getting frustrated and using any way to get it off.
Note: If you buy the tool, you may also end up stripping the threads where the three bolts hold it down onto the casing, if using too much force.
