What is the best C; D; LC; LD Lambretta book to buy?

Summary of the first three I would consider buying in order:

1 – Lambretta Raymond Broad Scooter Maintenance & Repair Series (Orange cover.  If orange cover missing, the book has a red hard paperback cover)  This is the best book I have found to date.  Often for sale at silly money.  However, can be found infrequently at times for a reasonable £15 on eBay.

2 – The Lambretta Servicesmans Book (1st edition by D B Palmer – Important information reference the 2nd and 3rd edition book.  If you were thinking about buying the book for yourself, to make space for further information, all reference to the TV Series 1, the LD 125 Mk1 and the LC has been left out.  You must therefore buy the 1st edition.  Normally goes for £12 on eBay every so often.  A download version of mine may be found below.

3 – Book Of The Lambretta 125 & 150 – 1947 – 1957 (Covering all models except the “48”)  This book is a replica of several other old books found online, that come up infrequently for sale (Purchased by a company a republished, with no content changes or updates!).  Look at buying it from somewhere like Amazon.

4 – The Lambretta Instruction Book & Service Manual (1st; 2nd or 3rd edition which is known as The Lambretta Service Guide & Handbook )  Produced by Lambretta Concessionairs Ltd books in the 1950’s.  Good books, but difficult to find and tend to be fragile, so not necessarily great for reviewing and opening on a daily basis.  Normally goes for around £15 two to three times a year.

My personal thoughts on the matter:

Jan 2021 – I have been purchasing many Lambretta LC / LD books and manuals for a number of years and continue to do so if I see a manual under £10.  In my opinion, most manuals and books sell for between £10 to no more than £20.  This includes postage.  I have seen some people sell a manual for £10 and advertise £30 postage.  I am not sure why they add £30 postage and assume they advertise this postage to confuse some people, so that they do not see the total cost of £40 being encountered for a £10 manual.  If you are buying a Lambtretta manual over this price (£10 to £15), please assume that you are  buying at an increased value for money.  Although this is clearly not a problem, you should be aware of this and consider downloading the free manuals below, before paying more than £10 to £20 (Including postage), then wait for the paper (hardback) version of the manual becoming available (Normally on e-bay) before parting with more money (Statement updated on 16th Jan21).  I have added this comment purely to aid you in saving a few pounds.  Not wanting to upset the resellers, at the end of the day, pay what you think think the book / manual is worth to you,

Lambretta Servicemans Book (1st edition) Manual Download

The Lambretta Servicemans manual below is my scanned copy.  It is a large file that is 170mb in size.  It may therefore take a short while to download.  There is also a smaller version that is a condensed file sized at 11mb.  This file is not as good a quality as the larger one, so if you are able to and require the manual, consider downloading the larger one.  Both files are in PDF format.

Important information reference the 2nd and 3rd edition book, if you were thinking about buying the book for yourself.  To make space for further information, all reference to the TV Series 1, the LD 125 Mk1 and the LC has been left out.

If you require 2nd or 3rd editions, please let me know, as I have these as well, but need to scan them in.

Lambretta Raymond Broad Scooter Maintenance & Repairs Series

States on the cover “A practical guide covering all models from 1952.  The book covers Lambretta C & D ( LC / LD ) TV175 & Li models.

This is probably my best book for maintenance and referencing and has a wealth of information in it.

I am not aware of this book being available to buy anywhere or being updated by a publisher or a publisher purchasing the rights to reproduce it.  If buying online, my views are that you should be paying no more than £15 for it (+£3 postage).  Some people are advertising it at a much higher price.

The Cassell Book of the Lambretta (1953-59) by Sydney F. Page

The book states on the inside cover “Shows fully how to deal with all minor adjustments, repairs and maintenance work that will enable the owner-driver to get the best possible performance from his vehicle”.

It’s a fairly basic book of knowledge in my opinion.  It is uncommon to find nowadays.  I purchased this one for £15.  However, they sometimes come up online for silly money.  I wouldn’t pay more than £15 if you wanted it.

I am not planning on scanning this one, but if you want a copy, let me know.

The Lambretta Instruction Book & Service Manual (2nd edition) 

Lambretta Concessionairs Ltd books.  These are great books and nearly listed as one of my best.  They hold ample information, but are rather fragile, due to their age.  If you can buy them for around £15 (+ £3 postage), I would say they are worth the money for the information inside.

It is a good comprehensive book with pop out pages showing diagrams and details.  I will scan this book when I have some spare time.  If you are keen to see a scanned copy, drop me an email using the contact form and I will prioritise scanning it

The Lambretta Service Guide & Handbook (3rd edition) 

Lambretta Concessionairs Ltd (70 pages).  Although the titles on the first page states 150LD, there are some references to C and LC models in it.

I am not aware of this book being available to buy anywhere or being updated by a publisher or a publisher purchasing the rights to reproduce it.  If buying online, my views are that you should be paying no more than £15 for it (+£3 postage).  This book does not come up for sale on-line very often.

It is a good comprehensive book.  I will scan this book when I have some spare time.  If you are keen to see a scanned copy, drop me an email using the contact form and I will prioritise scanning it.

Book Of The Lambretta 125 & 150 – 1947 – 1957 (Covering all models except the “48”) 

This book is still available to buy often at £24.00 on Amazon or EBay.  I will not be scanning this book.  It has maintenance task information, diagrams.  The publisher (Floyd Clymer) purchased the U.S. publishing rights for this first book of the Lambretta Motor Scooter from Sir Isaac Pitman & Sons Ltd of London.  This book was produced in 2010 by Velocepress.com, who acquired the rights to republish R H Warring books.

All the books below are identical to this book.  You should therefore have no reason to buy any of the books below over this one (other than to want to buy the original / used manual).

Summary:  It’s not a bad book and has enough information to get you started.

NOTE – All the books below (1st editions, First Book / The Book Of) are identical to this one and cost around £15 most of the time via e-bay.  Only buy the ones below if you want to own some history.  Please do not buy them thinking your going to get different information.  Some people ask for ridiculous sums of money explaining rare find, but they are not in my opinion.

Covering LD150 MK I, II, III and LD 125 as well as LI series I & II, TV Series II, GT200, Li Series III Slimstyle, J125, 100 Cento, SX 150 & 200, TV 175 Series 1

The Official Lambretta Guide – For owner-service & maintenance – An MRP Book (First published May 1959 by Motor Racing Publications)

Covering 150li, TV175, 125 / 150 LD, 

This book is still available to buy often at 9.99 (Free delivery) on Amazon and e-bay.  I will not be scanning this book.  It has maintenance task information, diagrams, part numbers.  I sometimes scan some documents and display on the website if I need to refer to part numbers and diagrams.  If you have a specific area you would like to see, let me know and I will scan.

Summary:  It’s not a bad book and has enough information to get you started.

I have two version of these.  One states on the front An MRP Book.  Both prints are good but also not the greatest of quality in some areas in my opinion.

The book is for Lambrettas covering the later model 125/150 LD,s, TV175 and Li150 models.

One advantage of this book is that it holds part numbers and diagrams for  the above models.

The Official Lambretta Guide – For owner-service & maintenance – An MRP Book (First published May 1959 by Motor Racing Publications)

Lambretta Restoration Guide (Vittorio Tessera Expanded Edition)

This book is still available to buy between £18 to £35 from Amazon & EBAY

The book covers all Lambretta models.  It does not cover restorations in much details.  However, there are some important aspects of information in areas it covers that as well as an intro on every model made; it covers wiring diagrams, paint colours (with images) and a small amount of technical information.  If you have a particular requirement of wanting to know something from this book, let me know.
